Archy 1969

A very early linocut as an illustration for ‘archy and mehitabel’ by Don Marquis published in 1931.

In this book Archy, a cockroach, is in love with Mehitabel, a cat. The only way that Archy can write his story is by jumping up and down on the typewriter keys hence the tale is entirely told in lower case.

Barbara loved the story not just for the two principal characters but for the dedication which was

dedicated to Babs

with Babs knows what

and Babs knows why
